英语的毕业典礼演讲稿篇1
who was the most well-known figure in china last month? itsquo;s ma jia jue—the college student who murdered 4 of his roommates. many people attributed his crime to his poverty and deficient education. in my opinion, his crime also has much to do with his classmatessquo; indifference.
indifference is a terrible disease in todaysquo;s colleges and the whole society. itsquo;s not rare that two students who have studied together for 4 years have never spoken to each other. itsquo;s not rare that a student who has been absent from class for several days is not noticed at all. itsquo;s also not rare that a student who has severe psychological problems is not cared about at all.
some people may say squo;what the students with psychological problems like ma jiajue need is not care but psychotherapy. however, when people are ill, what they need most is not only medical treatment, but also care from people around them. every smile and every caring word will bring sunshine to their life.
i once heard one of my roommates who was an introverted girl sobbing at mid-night. being afraid of disturbing her, i sent a text message to comfort her. the next day, she told me that she was crying for not being invited to one of her friendsquo;s birthday party. she thought she was neglected by others. but my message was really comforting which told her someone still cared about her.
what can we do to prevent the tragedy of ma jiajue from happening again? some people may say squo;letsquo;s open more psychological courses in schools.squo; and other people may say squo;letsquo;s donate more money for the poor students.squo; but isquo;ll say my fellow student, letsquo;s give more love and care to our roommates, our classmates and every person around us!

finally, when leaders wrap themselves in the flag, or the national anthem, and try to make you think that critics of your government donsquo;t love and respect our country, real patriotism isnsquo;t about honoring symbols. real patriotism is about bringing truth to light, and when action is required, standing up and taking action.
in other words, real patriotism is about taking pains. so if you remember nothing else from today, remember that phrase. or, to make it even simpler, just remember: t-pain.
graduates, as you leave this great university, i hope you will take the pains that are necessary to preserve and extend our democracy. take pains to understand the other side. take pains to expose lies. take pains to reject scapegoating and xenophobia. take pains not to fall for easy answers. and take pains to hold our leaders accountable for their words and their deeds.
if you do that, i have no doubt that truth – and america – will prevail. and my generation will be able to say, as we pass the leadership torch to yours, the same words that washington spoke with his last breath: squo;tis well.
so tonight, have one last drink, maybe at tsquo;s, dance to your own beat or to the beat of ninja turtle backpack guy, and tomorrow, get to work. the world needs you more than ever.
congratulations, and good luck.

medusa is just one of many greek myths that have encouraged me to fantasize, turning me into the creative girl i am today.
the myth talks about poseidon, god of the sea, kissing medusa in athenasquo;s temple. athena was furious. i can picture athenasquo;s punishment for medusa as if it were happening before my very eyes. the transformation from beauty to beast is as vivid and clear to me as is the light of day. the utter dread and bewilderment on medusasquo;s face as she changed is unforgettable and so eerie it chills me to the bone even still.
i am medusa, scariest of all.
my prey turn to stone while i stand tall.
one kiss with poseidon, god of the sea.
turned me to a monster no one dares to see.
greek myths have introduced me to a brand new world where imagination is boundless.

for your generation, theresquo;s an incredible amount of pressure on all of you to succeed, particularly now that you have accomplished so much. yousquo;re whole generation faces this pressure. i see it in my grandchildren who are honors students at other ivy universities right now. you race to do what others think is right in high school. you raced through the bloodsport of college admissions. you raced through yale for the next big thing. and all along, some of you compare yourself to the success of your peers on facebook, instagram, linked-in, twitter.
today, some of you may have found that you slipped into the self-referential bubble that validates certain choices. and the bubble expands once you leave this campus, the pressures and anxiousness, as well -- take this job, make that much money, live in this place, hang out with people like you, take no real risks and have no real impact, while getting paid for the false sense of both.
but resist that temptation to rationalize what others view is the right choice for you -— instead of what you feel in your gut is the right choice —- thatsquo;s your north star. trust it. follow it. you're an incredible group of young women and men. and that's not hyperbole. you're an incredible group.

as i said, my grandfather was a pastor for 50 plus years, leading the civil rights movement and marches, desegregating the public transit system and helping the first african-american policemen secure steady jobs. my father was a physician, one of only 100 black doctors in atlanta when he started his practice, and my mother was a civic leader who co-founded a coalition of neighborhoods across segregated communities.
following in the tradition of my elders, i pursued a role in public service as president of the city council and you heard that i served for six years. as the leader of the legislative branch of municipal government, i learned all the mechanics and the operations of the city. and when it was time for my next step, i threw my hat in the ring and ran for mayor.
i entered as the front runner with the highest name recognition. i raised a ton of money, i knocked on tens of thousands of doors. that said, there were issues along the way; my parents became ill – my father with the ravages of diabetes and two amputated legs and my mother diagnosed with the early onset of dementia – and i decided i needed to withdraw from the race to look after them.
but my father, he wasnsquo;t having it. he told me i need to step up! that i should return to the race and try to get elected and give back to the city that had given us so much. but by then, my campaignsquo;s momentum was gone. i lost the race and i was absolutely devastated. every question you can possibly image went through my head. had the people of atlanta forgotten me? had they forgotten all the work that i had done? did they lose faith in me? were they disappointing [disappointed]?

isquo;m so happy to be here on your day and all of your day. itsquo;s good to know theresquo;s one yalie who is happy isquo;m being here -- be here, at least one. (laughter.) on overheard at yale, on the facebook page, one student reported another student saying: i had a dream that i was vice president and was with the president, and we did the disco funk dance to convince the congress to restart the government. (laughter.)
another student commented, ysquo;all know biden would be hilarious, get funky. (laughter.)
well, my granddaughter, finnegan biden, whose dad went here, is with me today. when she saw that on the speech, i was on the plane, air force two coming up, she said, pop, it would take a lot more than you and the president doing the disco funk dance. the tea party doesn't even know what it is. (laughter.)
look, i don't know about that. but isquo;m just glad theresquo;s someone -- just someone -- who dreams of being vice president. (laughter and applause.) just somebody. i never had that dream. (laughter.) for the press out there, that's a joke.

all across america – at family gatherings, in social settings and workplaces, on college campuses, and certainly on social media, americans are losing the ability to conduct civil and productive dialogue with those who hold different political views.
and that has profound effect…profound implications for our ability to function as a society. after all, when you cansquo;t talk with one another, you cansquo;t understand one another. when we cansquo;t understand one another, we cansquo;t work together. when we cansquo;t work together, we cansquo;t do anything, at least not anything big and important.
we face a lot of hard challenges in america today – from climate change to gun violence, to failing schools to the opioid epidemic, and on campuses, from the frightening trend towards racism, sexism, hatred, anti-semitism and intolerance of unpopular views and opinions.
to have any hope of overcoming these challenges, we have to start by reclaiming our civic dialogue from those who are debasing and degrading it – and preventing us from getting things done.
all of you can help do that – no matter what your politics are and no matter what line of work you pursue later on. maybe your passion is science or education, or the arts or education, or medicine or health care, or business. there is not a single issue that isnsquo;t affected by political debates. and there is not a single issue that isnsquo;t threatened by the breakdown in our civic discourse.
