honorable judges and dear friends, my name is maer dongyan, isquo;m very happy today to stand here to share my speech, my imagination, and my story as an air traffic controller with all of you.

i, as a 35-year-old air traffic controller, have been working on the tower for nearly ten years. through these yearssquo; working, i really come to love this job. besides, as the husband of my beloved, the father of my 8-year-old daughter, and the son of my old parents, i also love my family, a happy family.

however, it has been really hard to coordinate my work and my family.

itsquo;s generally considered great to be an air traffic controller by the public, for the job is believed to be well-paid and quite easy. i was also one of them before i started the work. but things have been entirely different from what i used to think. as an air traffic controller of the new century, wesquo;re facing tasks and barriers greater and harder than ever, that is, we have to ensure the safety and order of the fast-developing civil aviation. wesquo;re burdened with pressure, responsibilities, the trust of hundreds of pilots, the lives of tens of thousands of passengers, and the hopes of millions of families. every step we take, every word we say is connected to the safety of passengers. and disasters may occur if wesquo;re even a little bit careless. then, how can that be easy?

as a man who owns a family, i also have to take care of my family. still, it isnsquo;t that easy. since i took the job 10 years ago, i havensquo;t had enough time to be with my family. so many festivals have i spend with microphones, but not my family and friends, just because my job needs me. so many times have my wifecomplained about my returning home late and having meals outside often, just because my job needs me. and so many times, my mom or dad is sick in bed, but i cannot be there with them in time, just because my job needs me. i cannot fully devote myself to my family because my job needs me, a lot of people need me. and again, as a man with a family, how can that be easy?

even though isquo;m not competent as a father, a husband, and a son, i still love my family. my daughter once said that it was her happiest time to see me back from work. and itsquo;s the same with me. isquo;m pleased and grateful to see that my family can support and understand my work and my little devotion to them.

i have made many sacrifices as an air traffic controller. i really feel sorry for my family. but as i help pilots find their destinations under terrible weather conditions, and then hear thanks from them, isquo;m satisfied. and as i see planes taking off and landing safely, and make sure that hundreds more families can get together, isquo;m comforted. i even seem to be able to see the happy smiles on their faces.

such is my job, though i cannot enjoy much of the happiness my family brings to me, i can experience the sense of responsibility through my work. isquo;ll never regret this, regret choosing my job. it is through these years that i know what responsibility and devotion really mean. and it is through these years that i realize what family really means to me---supporting and understanding. i really appreciate them.

with my family as an anchor for me, i firmly believe that i can overcome all the difficulties on my way, and make a contribution to the cause of air traffic control. and i believe, i am, and always will be a member of civil aviation, and my family as well.

thatsquo;s all for my speech today, thank you very much for your listening.

dear teacher and classmates:

i am very glad to make a speech here in this class again! this time, i\'d like to talk something about english.

i love english. english language is now used everywhere in the world. it has become the most common language on internet and for international trade. learning english makes me confident and brings me great pleasure.

when i was seven, my mother sent me to an english school. at there, i played games and sang english songs with other children . then i discovered the beauty of the language, and began my colorful dream in the english world.

everyday, i read english following the tapes. sometimes, i watch english cartoons.

on the weekend, i often go to the english corner. by talking with different people there, i have made more and more friends as well as improved my oral english.

i hope i can travel around the world someday. i want to go to america to visit washington monument, because the president washington is my idol. of course, i want to go to london too, because england is where english language developed. if i can ride my bike in cambridge university, i will be very happy.

i hope i can speak english with everyone in the world. i\'ll introduce china to them, such as the great wall, the forbidden city and anshan.

i know, rome was not built in a day. i believe that after continuous hard study, one day i can speak english very well.

if you want to be loved, you should learn to love and be lovable. so i believe as i love english everyday , it will love me too.

one day in 1819, 3,000 miles off the coast of chile, in one of the most remote regions of the pacific ocean, 20 american sailors watched their ship flood with seawater.

they'd been struck by a sperm whale, which had ripped a catastrophic hole in the ship's hull. as their ship began to sink beneath the swells, the men huddled together in three small whaleboats.

these men were 10,000 miles from home, more than 1,000 miles from the nearest scrap of land. in their small boats, they carried only rudimentary navigational equipment and limited supplies of food and water.

these were the men of the whaleship essex, whose story would later inspire parts of “moby dick.”

even in today's world, their situation would be really dire, but think about how much worse it would have been then.

no one on land had any idea that anything had gone wrong. no search party was coming to look for these men. so most of us have never experienced a situation as frightening as the one in which these sailors found themselves, but we all know what it's like to be afraid.

we know how fear feels, but i'm not sure we spend enough time thinking about what our fears mean.

as we grow up, we're often encouraged to think of fear as a weakness, just another childish thing to discard like baby teeth or roller skates.

and i think it's no accident that we think this way. neuroscientists have actually shown that human beings are hard'wired to be optimists.

so maybe that's why we think of fear, sometimes, as a danger in and of itself. “don't worry,” we like to say to one another. “don't panic.” in english, fear is something we conquer. it's something we fight.

it's something we overcome. but what if we looked at fear in a fresh way? what if we thought of fear as an amazing act of the imagination, something that can be as profound and insightful as storytelling itself?

it's easiest to see this link between fear and the imagination in young children, whose fears are often extraordinarily vivid.

when i was a child, i lived in california, which is, you know, mostly a very nice place to live, but for me as a child, california could also be a little scary.

i remember how frightening it was to see the chandelier that hung above our dining table swing back and forth during every minor earthquake, and i sometimes couldn't sleep at night, terrified that the big one might strike while we were sleeping.

and what we say about kids who have fears like that is that they have a vivid imagination. but at a certain point, most of us learn to leave these kinds of visions behind and grow up.

we learn that there are no monsters hiding under the bed, and not every earthquake brings buildings down. but maybe it's no coincidence that some of our most creative minds fail to leave these kinds of fears behind as adults.

a university professor started off his class by picking out of his back pocket a 20-pound note. and in this lecture hall of about 200 people he asked, “how many of you would like this note?”

naturally, all 200 hands went up. he said, “interesting.” he then said, “before i let you have it, let me ask you this question.” he took the note and folded it in half twice, and then he said, “how many of you want this note?” still 200 hands went up. now he said, “let me try something else.” he took the note and he crumpled it.and he said, “how many of you want this note now?” still 200 hands went up. finally he chucked the note on the floor. he screwed it with his shoe and crumpled it even more, picked it back up, now with dirt, and said, “how many of you want this note?”

all 200 hands were still up. he said, “today, you’ve leraned an important lesson. no matter how much i crumpled that note, how much i scrunched it up, how many times it was trodden on, you still wanted it, because it was still worth 20-pounds.”

hello, everyone ! my name is isquo;m from class 1, isquo;m very happy to stand here to give you my free-talk. today my topic is to be a good failure.

i believe everyone has experienced a lot . we have done good things and also bad things. when we do the bad things, we should not feel sad. we should learn from failure ,learn from every mistake and learn how to be a good loser. thatsquo;s what i'll be talking about today. that's our lesson to learn. let me tell you why.

first, losing is a part of life. it is unavoidable. it is something we all must face. everybody loses sometimes. every great person knows this truth. so don't be ashamed of losing. losing doesn't mean you're a loser.

second, donsquo;t escape from it, just accept it. losing is beneficial and can be helpful to you. we just view it as a learning experience. losing is a chance to learn. you can learn how to try again and improve.

third, practice makes perfect. create challenges for yourself. never be afraid of failure. lose as much as you can. losing only makes you better. that is a great secret of success.

in conclusion, remember these. you will be a good loser. it might be painful at first. but it will get easier as you go along. you'll be respected and admired. you'll feel so achievement to learn so much. you are not the real failure ,you will be a winner in future.

good morning, ladies and gentlemen, i’m very happy to be making a speechhere. today my topic is “tomorrow will be better. ”

china born and china bred, i love china very much. i’m proud that i havegot the beautiful yellow skin, black eyes and black hair. i’m also proud that ispeak the most beautiful language in the world——chinese. when i heard thatchina, our motherland, would have a chance to hold the 20__ olympic games, ifelt very happy and excited, and i hoped i could do something useful to buildchina into a beautiful and energetic country.

in the 21st century, the environment is becoming more and more important,so we have "green olympic" as a slogan. of course a slogan is just a goal. themost important thing is that we should do some things to make it true. such assorting the trash, saving the energy and so on. we are still students now, so wecan't do anything really big, but if everybody does something good for ourenvironment, we could make our motherland more beautiful.

in fact, the things we can do are easy. like not littering used batterieseverywhere, sorting the trash that we want to throw away, and also protectingthe animals and plants around us.

luckily, i had a chance to take part in an activity, that is, we planted 5trees everybody in our campus. my classmates and i worked very hard. thisactivity is not only about planting trees, but also contributing to ourenvironment. look at the trees, i believe, tomorrow there will be more trees andflowers standing in our campus and giving chinese people a beautifulenvironment.

we are all chinese people, living on the earth. we have only onemotherland——china, just like we have only one earth. if we don't beautify ourenvironment, who will? good environment depends on good human consciousness. weshould say that protecting our surroundings is not easy, that's why i'm standinghere to summon people do it.

if we do this from the bottom of our hearts tomorrow, china will be morebrilliant, it will have blue skies, white clouds and cleaner rivers. who doesn'twant china to become more and more beautiful? if we do our best, tomorrow willbe better!

thank you for your listening! thank you all!
